The Piedmont School was founded in 1982 by educator and parent, Pat McDonal Shahrokhi, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point, NC. The school’s founding purpose was to provide intense, proven academic support for struggling students with learning differences such as ADD, dyslexia, central auditory processing, etc. The Piedmont School currently serves over 90 students. In 2017 it was announced that the high school would be named in homage to the late John Yowell, a major benefactor and a driving force in the development of The Piedmont School. While the original mission has changed very little over the past four decades; enrollment, faculty, and programming have grown and expanded steadily to better serve students throughout the Piedmont Triad region. In support of this mission, all proceeds from The Piedmont School and John Yowell Academy’s 10th Annual Golf Tournament will benefit student scholarships and programing.
